Well, tonight while we were getting dinner ready, I heard Jaxon tell Brent that he wanted a bun with his hot dog, wait a minute, back up…Jaxon has never. ever. asked for a bun, what in the world…I carry every type of gluten free everything…except hot dog buns! I knew I shouldn’t do it, but once again I gave into my “mommy guilt” and let him have a hot dog with a bun (it was organic if that counts for anything). He LOVED it so it was almost worth it…almost…
Jaxon has been up three times since he went to sleep, no tummy ache or anything, just typical night waking, but still… his sleep is being interrupted… which means my sleep is being interrupted… which means we will both be grouchy tomorrow.
So, in honor of Autism Awareness…yes, tonight I am very aware of what Autism has done to my son! I do recognize that we have come a long way since his diagnosis, up until even a year ago he couldn’t even come in contact with gluten without having a week of setbacks, and now we can tolerate some gluten products, and almost get away with having others…huge stride, but I wonder if my little boy will ever be able to enjoy a hot dog (with a bun) without having some form of side effect from it.
UPDATE: Jaxon seemed to be doing great this morning so hopefully we did not have a bad gluten reaction, just a restless night!
