I have done extensive research regarding focusing activities and supplements to increase memory and “brain function”. I remember Jaxon’s doctor telling me over and over “we need to feed the brain” and we did this with Omegas. I’m sure every doctor would recommend something different, but our choice in “feeding the brain” came from Barleans Omega Swirl in Lemon Zest and good fats like regular (not low fat) yogurts and cheeses.
I also enjoy playing games at home with Jaxon that “tease his brain” and “make him think a little harder”. Below are some examples of the games we play at home!
Focus Games… (These type of games build you focus level)
Crossword puzzles and word searches
Object memory game (place objects on a tray, look at it and then cover it and recall what was there)
Something else that I came across while studying focus and memory was peppermint. Yes, good ole’fashioned peppermint can help your child in school. Several studies have been done regarding peppermint and focus/memory and they have proven that using peppermint in school could actually help children during test-taking. Peppermint oil can also have positive effects on focus/memory, so if a teacher doesn't want to allow candy in class she could open a bottle of peppermint oil and let the aroma disperse throughought the room before a test. Below are a few articles regarding peppermint in school.
***FYI***I found Organic Peppermint Candy Canes at Whole Foods last year, they are Gluten Free, Dye Free, and Vegan.
