Whether you have a child with special needs or not, life isn’t always fun, and it isn’t always easy. I have been trying more and more to relax and just enjoy my time with my family even if things aren’t going as smooth as I would hope.
The other day both of the boys were being…challenging…for lack of a better word. They were both tired, hungry, and in need of some serious attention. Since dinner wasn’t anywhere near ready and bedtime was even further away, I decided we needed to do a little wiggling. What a plan, they boys both “shook their bodies”, laughed, and enjoyed some time with each other and with Brent and me. After our little “dance party” they were both more relaxed and able to wait for dinner and finish out the night with minimal meltdowns and even a little smiling from time to time.
I think as parents, we sometimes get wrapped up in what we “need”to do and forget about doing the fun stuff. I am going to continue giving the boys more “play time” with the hopes that it will make them feel more relaxed and better able to deal with stress on a daily basis. I hope y’all can try it out!
**Sorry that the pictures are blurry, it was hard to get a good shot of my "little dancer"!
