By
Jill R Tschikof, Ph.D.
Abstract
Given that the number of children being diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders continues to rise, research regarding treatment options is very important. The current study used an ex post facto design to examine the relationship between biomedical treatment and healthy family functioning in families who have a child diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. The results from the FACES IV assessment illustrated that families who have used biomedical treatment for their child diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder have higher levels of healthy family functioning than families who do not. The results, limitations, and recommendations for future research are discussed.
